Position Summary:

Reporting to the Innovation and Digital Manager, IT Programmer is responsible for the development of digital and innovation insurance software solutions. In collaboration of the Business Analysts and management, you will plan, develop and roll out new insurance platforms, using PHP and Laraval.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the innovation team and business to understand, assess, develop and test insurance solution platforms.
  • Maintain and further develop existing software platforms as business requirements evolve.
  • Establish in-house IT system quality management guidelines, policy and procedural documents, auditing measures and reporting measures.
  • Write IT Developer platform guides, documenting the platform development.
  • Understand and adhere to risk management, cyber security, business continuity measures.

Skill Sets

  • PHP – Expert knowledge and experience in PHP programming with MVC architecture, (for example: code ignitor, symphony, cake php, etc), JavaScript Frameworks (Angular, VueJS, Knockout, React), Jquery, Css & HTML5, XML, XHTML, AJAX, JSON.,
  • Have expertise in building secure Restful APIs & SOAP.
  • Knowledge of version control software such as GIT, SVN.


  • .NET – Skills At least 4+ years’ experience using NET with mvc, .NET C#, core, XML, Visual Studios, HTML, JavaScript, Java, XML, PL/SQL, AJAX and CSS.


  • Knowledge and working with databases such as mySql, sql server, oracle and/or others.
  • Be able to develop responsive website and backend systems (i.e front & back end)
  • Knowledge and experience in versioning, releasing & updating the software is required.
  • Have expertise in building secure api/webservices, job scheduler and reports.
  • Having domain knowledge with insurance, preferred.
  • Server management experience is an asset.
  • Should have creative & problem solving mindset.
  • Effective communications and documentation skills.Role Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years’ experience as a PHP and Laraval programming.
  • Experience in rolling out the full project life cycle of platforms.
  • Project Management Knowledge, and experience working in a Project Management environment.
  • Insurance industry experience and knowledge, preferred.
  • Professional communication skills, effectively communicating with team members, business representatives and vendors.

Position Status: Permanent, Full-time position

Working Environment

Located in our corporate Dartmouth, NS office. Monday- Friday work week, and requires some flexibility to address IT system issues that are unforseen.
